NBClatino.com new site targeting English-dominant Latinos

As we reported late last year, NBC is launching a site targeting English-dominant Latinos. 

NBCLatino.com, a news and lifestyle website that will draw from NBC News, MSNBC, and NBCUniversal property Telemundo.

The site, features  English-language news and Latino perspectives and opinion pieces, two months after ABC and Univision announced plans to start a new English news channel with an accompanying website. The NBC site began as a Tumblr page in late 2011.

The NBCLatino will feature a mix of news and lifestyle stories. Executive editor Chris Peña oversees the site, including a staff of bilingual writers and producers based at NBC’s headquarters in New York City.

“The goal of NBC Latino is to take Hispanic news beyond the usual conversation, toward something more inspired, empowered and energized; to tell and reflect the Hispanic-American story with authentic voices, and make NBC the brand of choice for Hispanics across mobile, online and TV,” said Peña. The site began as a Tumblr page in late 2011 and has since played an important role in making sure that Latino issues and perspectives are incorporated across the various platforms of NBC News, particularly around the network’s coverage of the 2012 presidential election. Going forward, the site will continue to evolve to deliver users the optimal mobile, video and social media experience, and further grow the community already engaged with NBC Latino through Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

Many new English-language sites targeting Hispanics

Over the last 6 to 8 months there has been a substantial increase in digital media properties targeting Hispanics.  Voxxi launched a new site targeting acculturated Latinos and Hearst introduced in May Cosmopolitan Latina, a bi-annual magazine and website targeting English-dominant Hispanics that publishes 545,000 copies and will be made available in states like Texas, California, Florida and New York, which have large Latino populations.  

Other recent launches of properties targeting the English-dominant Hispanics include NuovoTV, MTV3rs and  web properties such as FoxNewslatino.com and more niche oriented sites such as guanabee.comHispanicallyspeakingnews.com.
