NBC-owned Telemundo on Wednesday night announced –via Twitter  – the termination of a part-time contractor, after the company found out such contractor had been writing a series of racy, anti-Muslim tweets that caused a stir during a brief few days this week.

In a statement released Wednesday night and posted with a Twitt Longer URL, Telemundo spokeswoman Michelle Alban said: “We have investigated the matter  and have found that the person associated with the twitter handle @hotchulo was a part-time contracted worker.” And continued: “We take these matters seriously and as a result, have terminated our relationship with this person. We also want to make it clear that he was not speaking on behalf of Telemundo Media or NBCUniversal at any time.”

The Identity of the Twitter account? Indeed, the contractor twitting under the @hotchulo handle (photos) had identified itself online as the Latino Ken Doll. But his brief Twitter bio showed him as a Social Media Coordinator @ Telemundo Network and a Graduate Student in Mass Communications. In addition to his own personal @hotchulo account, such contractor was posting Telemundo-related tweets using official Telemundo Twitter handles.

The Twitter account for @hotchulo has been shut down.

In a blog post Wednesday night on The Electronic Intifada, an online news publication focusing on Palestine issues co-founder Ali Abunimah commended Telemundo on “the speed and seriousness in which it responded to this matter.”

Telemundo is withholding the identity of @hotchulo (or the Latino Ken Doll) and none of his tweets identify him by name.
