According to the ComScore rankings for September 2011 (see table below), Google’s media properties, which include YouTube, in Latin America occupied the first place with a reach of just over 119 million unique visitors out of a total market universe of almost 124.5 monthly unique visitors. In second place, Microsoft sites reached nearly 114.5 million users and Facebook occupied the third position with 101.4 million users.
Partly explaining Facebook’s strong growth is the fact that Social Networks are really popular among Latin Americans. According to Synthesio, 82% of web users in Latin America use social networks. Brazil takes almost 40% of the web users in Latin America, followed by Mexico and Argentina with 15% and 13% respectively. By percentage of web users, Facebook reaches a penetration of 49%.
Yahoo! Is a little bit far from the first three properties with 86.2 million users, but it´s still on the fourth place above Telefonica sites (which include Terra) and Wikimedia Foundation Sites.
