News in the Latin online video space. starMedia announced that it has partnered with Dailymotion to incorporate its video sharing platform and content into starMedia’s newly redesigned portal, www.starmedia.com. Dailymotion’s video sharing platform comprises 21 million videos in its catalogue and reaches 114 million unique visitors each month worldwide, with 520,000 videos uploaded monthly.

sTarmedia owner, France Telecom/Orange in January  bought a 49% stake in online video site DailyMotion, a YouTube competitor. Dailymotion has 114 million unique visitors generating over 1.2 billion video views every month according to Comscore.  It is ranked the 29th most visited website in the world.

All starMedia users will be able to access Dailymotion content directly from any of starMedia’s media channels. starMedia will also be enriching Dailymotion’s service by providing bespoke content blocks to add to Dailymotion’s library of rich and entertaining content.

Commenting on the incorporation of Dailymotion content into its portal redesign, Josep Solé, Director of the starMedia portal, said “Dailymotion is one of the world’s most visited sites today and by putting their video sharing platform at the heart of our redesigned portal, we can continue to deliver the most innovative and up-to-date content for our Hispanic communities. Integrating the Dailymotion content directly into our portals provides our communities with fast and easy access to the content they love. ”

Luc Dumont, VP International Development, Dailymotion, also said, “The partnership with starMedia further validates our global approach, the quality of the content we distribute as well as our ability to scale on highly trafficked portals. Pushing the Dailymotion player in front of StarMedia’s 26 million monthly unique visitors will help us move from our current number of 180 million users watching the Dailymotion player per month to yet another very exciting milestone.”

Concept of location
This partnership between starMedia and Dailymotion also provides a deeply compelling offer to advertisers all across Latin America. Dailymotion’s categorisation of content offers brands an unrivalled and qualified inventory of scale. It can be used by advertisers to target the video sharing market locally by differentiating between premium and user-generated content. Dailymotion’s catalogue of aggregated content is built around the concept of location – it has secured extensive rights to local premium content via partnerships with the major official providers across Latin America. These include Globovisión, a 24-hour television news network in Venezuela, live content from guatevision, more than 2,000 videos from perucom as well as TV3 in Spain.

Redesign
In July this year, starMedia embarked on its most ambitious redesign, revamping all its media web channels with a new, fresh and simplified look and feel. In addition to Dailymotion content, starMedia is extending this area with the addition of new channels dedicated to technology and automotive. Additionally, well known ‘classic’ starMedia services like LatinChat, LatinGames, LatinCards or LatinMail have been updated along with popular student channel Rincon del Vago. Future plans also include developing the portal for mobile and tablet platforms or increasing the English content available, providing a more personal and mobile experience so customers can access these channels wherever and whenever they choose.
