Stephen Burke Has Been Named NBC Universal CEO

Stephen Burke has been named chief executive of NBC Universal, after Comcast’s acquisition of a controlling share in the company from General Electric.

Burke leaves Comcast as chief operating officer to take up the position, succeeding president and CEO Jeff Zucker.

Burke joined Comcast in 1998 as president of Comcast cable, and helped Comcast become the largest cable company, residential internet service provider and third largest phone company in America. He recently led the highly successful integration of AT&T Broadband with Comcast and the launch of its video on demand services.

Prior to this, Burke held a number of roles at the Walt Disney Company, including president of ABC broadcasting, and president and COO at Euro Disney.

“Steve Burke is an experienced, talented and visionary leader with over 25 years in the media and entertainment industry. Steve is one of the most well respected executives in the industry, and I am confident that he will lead NBCU forward to a new era of growth.” said Brian Roberts, Comcast chairman and chief executive.
