Global Advertising Strategies, an international marketing firm, today announced the appointment of Marcos Sánchez as Vice President of Client Services. Marcos will oversee the agency’s team of account executives, as well as lead Global’s new business efforts. Marcos brings extensive knowledge in Hispanic marketing, business and campaign development to Global Advertising Strategies.
Michele Salcedo, an editor in Washington for The Associated Press, is the new president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Salcedo was elected as NAHJ's president on past Saturday, and will serve in her new role for two years.
Francisco Mata, publisher of Enlace, Carlos Valdivia, Sales Manager and Jennifer Ferrer, Account Manager have left Enlace, the Spanish-language weekly newspaper (circ.86,000) owned by The San Diego Union Tribune. Francisco Mata now works in his own consulting company, while Carlos Valdivia has been employed by Wells Fargo.
Lilia O’ Hara is now responsible for editorial content at Enlace and Sara Gaviria is the new Sales Director (she previously worked as Account Manager). The new approach includes an integrated sales effort. San Diego Union Tribune sales reps sell Enlace’s products and the other way around (There are 65 San Diego Union Tribune sales reps and 3 Enlace sales executives).
We reported last week that the San Diego Union-Tribune is extending its Enlace brand into the Tijuana market. The San Diego Union Tribune was purchased by private equity group Platinum Group in 2009 and has undergone a series of layoffs. About 35 newsroom employees were laid off at The San Diego Union-Tribune two weeks ago, the seventh round of job cuts in the last four years and the first under the newspaper's new editor. The layoffs, part of a planned reorganization, included familiar bylines: nationally syndicated columnist Ruben Navarrete and veteran reporters such as Anne Krueger (East County), Jeff Ristine (Just Fix It), Leslie Berestein (the U.S.-Mexico border), Michael Burge (North County) and John Marelius (politics).
Database marketing company Infogroup has been acquired by affiliates of PE firm CCMP Capital Advisors. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Omaha, NE-based has hired former Dow Jones executive Clare Hart to be its president and CEO.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has named Michele Nadeem to the position of vice president, Global Corporate Communications. Nadeem is responsible for leading Royal Caribbean's overall global communication strategies and community relations efforts throughout all of its brands, and reports directly to the company's chairman and CEO, Richard D. Fain.
Bill Simon has been promoted to President and CEO of Walmart U.S. The company also said that Vice Chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright has been appointed President and CEO of Global.com and Global Sourcing. The change is probably a demotion for Castro-Wright who supervised most of the company's domestic operations.
Lotus Entravision Reps (LER), the radio sales rep firm announced the appointments of Don Parsons to Vice President, Southeast Region and Jose Villafane to Senior Account Executive, Northeast Region. Mr. Parsons, who joins from CaribeVision, will be responsible for overseeing the representation of LER's Spanish-language stations in the Southeast region and will be based in Miami. Mr. Villafane, joining from Univision Television, will oversee sales for LER's Spanish-language stations in the Northeast region.
