  • Unilever

Unilever has shortlisted Aegis, Initiative, Mindshare and PHD for its lucrative global media planning and buying account. Second-round meetings and presentations were conducted in London last week and a final shortlist will be released at the beginning of November.

The FMCG giant initially launched a review in its key global markets in July. Its annual advertising spend is in excess of US$5 billion. Latin-American effort will include Argentina and Mexico. Asia and Europe are part of the plants too.

 

  • Bacardi

BACARDI is unveiling a new global multi-media advertising campaign, entitled “Spirit of BACARDI,” with the first execution called “Island.” The campaign will feature a TV platform, out-of-home advertising, digital, cinema and print and strong promotional support.

The spot will run in markets around the world, first breaking in October in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Germany, and then The Netherlands and Canada. Other markets will follow. It is available in 20, 30, and 60 second spots.

“Island” will be supported at launch with a heavy public relations and digital campaign to drive trade and consumer awareness. Digital elements include iPhone/iPod downloads, Facebook and Twitter campaigns as well YouTube.

The U.S. portion of the global campaign includes a multi-million dollar spend from October 2009 to December 2009.

 

  • Mastercard

MasterCard Taps R/GA for Global Digital Advertising Duties Interpublic Agency Takes Over Majority of Work. Interpublic Group of Cos.' R/GA has won the lion's share of Mastercard's global digital business, including U.S. responsibilities that were previously with sibling MRM, the digital unit of McCann Worldgroup, according to executives familiar with matter. 

MasterCard's priceless iPhone app. Before the global digital review, MRM handled interactive duties for the credit-card company in the U.S., Latin America. McCann Erickson handles advertising for MasterCard in most markets including the U.S.

 

  • Telefonica

As Portada recently reported Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica awarded its Latin American media planning and buying account to Starcom Media Vest.

 

  • Weber Shandwick

Weber Shandwick, a global public relations firm, announced it has appointed Laura Schoen to Chair, Latin America. In her newly expanded role, in addition to her global healthcare responsibilities, Schoen will focus on further driving Weber Shandwick's business growth in Latin America, particularly in emerging markets such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile. She will continue to serve as president of the firm's global healthcare practice.

Schoen joined Weber Shandwick in late 2000 and has led several groundbreaking campaigns in Latin America. Over the course of her career she has worked on programs for investment banks, pharmaceuticals and tourism in the region.

 

  • InterContinental Hotels Group

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the hotel group, has a new senior leadership team in the Americas as the region’s president, Jim Abrahamson, names Eric Pearson as Chief Marketing Officer, the Americas; Angela Brav as Chief Operating Officer, North America; and Jim Anhut as Chief Development Officer, the Americas. This new senior leadership team better aligns IHG in the Americas as an operating company with a focus on driving hotel performance and satisfying the changing needs of today’s guests.

 

  • Aristocrat

2009 Aristocrat Technologies, Inc. is gearing up to expand its presence in the Latin American region with three key appointments. Based in the United States, Alvaro Nores will support both the existing Argentinean office as well as the newly created Mexican office in his position of Vice-President Latin America. Carlos Carrion, the current Marketing Manager for Aristocrat in Latin America, will assume the post of Director of Sales and Operations – Mexico and will move to the new office in Mexico City in November. Stepping in to replace his Las Vegas-based role is Olga Pleguezuelos, who moves across from Aristocrat's London office.

The new appointments have been made to support Aristocrat's successful Latin American office based in Buenos Aires and led by the General Business Manager for Latin America, Juan Pablo Irarrazaval, and Sales Manager Alejandro Saraintaris – and assist with the expected growth and expansion of business in this region.
