Hispanic media properties have a chance to capitalize on the heavy use of cell phones by Hispanics. Vendors– mobile content creators, value added service providers and intermediaries–are offering partnerships to media companies. These media companies advertise information services available on mobile phones on a subscription basis, generally between $4.00 and $12 dollars a month.
Subscriptions are then shared between the mobile content producer (25% of revenues), the media property (25%), and the telecommunications operator 50%.
Consumers often opt-in for this advertising by sending SMS messages to a predetermined address. Argentina based Plus Mobile, one of the companies in this space, has struck deals with several Hispanic newspapers, including Atlanta-based Mundo Hispanico, under this business model.
