Catering Oregon’s and Southwest Washington’s ballooning Hispanic population, which has grown 43% since 2001, general market daily The Oregonian is launching Cancha this Friday.
The free paper will launch with 20,000 copies and will be tabloid format, focusing on sports and entertainment.
The paper will include two pages devoted to local news and events, 10 pages of classified advertising and the rest will cover news of interest to the Mexican American community. This content will be provided through an arrangement with Mexico-based Grupo Reforma.
Local content will come from The Oregonian’s editorial staff, which will then be translated. The paper will be distributed on Friday’s through area street boxes and local businesses.
