Clara Padilla Andrews, publisher of El Hispano News, was elected as the new president of the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) last weekend in Scottsdale Arizona at the NAHP 25th Anniversary & 22nd National Convention.
Andrews won the election against Johnnie Yataco, publisher of Washington Hispanic. She told Portada that one of the primary aims of her mandate is to strengthen the cooperation between the National Hispanic Press Foundation and the NAHP.
Andrews succeeds Lupita Colmenero, publisher of El Hispano News in Dallas. One of Colmenero’s main achievements was to change the bylaws of the NAHP to allow membership of publications that are not owned by Hispanics.
