Scholastic and Target Team Up for Summer Reading Buzz

Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company has teamed up with big-box retailer Target to get kids reading with Scholastic Summer Reading BUZZ!. The 4-month, multi-media campaign is designed not only to motivate kids to read but also to promote the important role parents, educators and librarians play in helping kids find books that will keep them reading all year long.

Target and Scholastic will launch an interactive online destination at www.scholastic.com/summerreading on May 15th, for kids, parents, teachers and librarians.  Spanish-language online ads will be hosted at Lectorum.com and scholastic.com/summerreading which will link to lectorum.com, Scholastic’s Spanish-language books distribution channel. The 4-month, multi-media campaign is designed not only to motivate kids to read but also to promote the important role parents, educators and librarians play in helping kids find books that will keep them reading all year long.

This site will include interactive book logs, activities, and a reading community where kids can buzz about books and “Show Us Their Reading Buzz” through multimedia submissions. Parents and educators will find extensive book lists in English and Spanish, expert advice, and downloadable materials that will help engage their kids in reading.

To further raise awareness about the importance of summer reading for kids, Target and Scholastic have jointly created a summer reading in-school program for grades K-8.  Starting in May, more than 250,000 teachers nationwide will receive a special Summer Reading Buzz! classroom guide which features information about summer reading, including age-appropriate books and fun reading activities for every grade level.

“We are thrilled to be joining with Target to help get kids excited about reading this summer,” stated Ann Amstutz-Hayes, Vice President of Scholastic In School Programs. “Scholastic Summer Reading Buzz! will reach millions of kids and families in school, at home and online, and will help guide parents’ efforts to get kids reading four of more books this summer to combat the summer slide.”
