The Journal Registry Company has expanded its Spanish-language weekly, Registro, to serve the greater Danbury, Waterbury and Northwest Corner markets, launching with an initial circulation of 10,000. The new move gives the publication a combined circulation of 92,000.

The original edition of Registro was launched in New Haven in 2005, and shortly thereafter expanded into Hartford and New Britain.

The publication specializes in local news stories and features. Editor Julio C. Urdaneta emphasizes, “We do not consider ourselves an ethnic publication. We are a newspaper in Spanish. Our goal is to bridge the gap between new Spanish-speaking arrivals and long-time Connecticut residents.”

Director of Specialty Publications for the Journal Registry Co., Jonathan Cooper, points out the paper's political significance: “As one of Connecticut's fastest-growing Spanish-language publications, we want politicians to realize that Registro is a forum that they need to engage in order to reach much of the state's Hispanic community.”

The paper's advertisers include Boost Mobile, Brazil's Brahma beer company, and Miller Lite, among others.
