"Filling the Gaps in the Road", a white paper published by S&C Advertising & Public Relations, reveals that about half of the nation's Hispanic truck drivers speak Spanish and would prefer to read in their native language. According to the paper, based on research and interviews with Spanish speaking drivers, fleet owners and other industry experts, an even greater number would prefer to read information in both Spanish and English. Currently, there are about 480,000 Hispanic truck drivers., the paper reveals that S&C commissioned the study in an effort to determine the need for more Spanish language materials in the trucking and transportation industries.
By law, truck drivers must be able to speak English in order to earn a commercial driver's license. However, many Hispanics who speak English indicate they are more comfortable reading in Spanish. S&C Advertising & Public Relations recommends to produce more English and Spanish language trucking news and information, it could make recruiting more difficult.
