Televisa and Disney launch ESPN Deportes

ESPN Deportes La Revista, the Spanish-language edition of ESPN The Magazine, made its debut on newsstands. Advertisers include BMW, Relojes Elini, Visa, Dodge, Wal-Mart, Dewar's 12 and Gatorade.

The August edition of ESPN Deportes (co-published by Editorial Televisa and Disney's ESPN, Spanish-language, circ. 55,000) made its debut on newsstands. The new monthly mag will have an estimated rate base of 55,000. ESPN Deportes charges an open rate of US $8,800 (CPM US $160). The new mag will cost US $2.99 at the newsstand and have an annual subscription price of US $12. For copy sales, Editorial Televisa expects a long term split of 20% (newsstand sales) and 80% (subscription sales). Promotional issues will be distributed at selected events. There will be a combined ad-sales effort by ESPN Deportes magazine and ESPN cable.

The August issue features a cover story featuring “Latino Power: 101 Most Influential Latinos in Sports.” San Antonio Spurs star Manu Ginobili, who tops the list of the most influential Latinos, graces the cover of ESPN Deportes La Revista.

ESPN Deportes La Revista will join the roster of ESPN Deportes-branded initiatives that also includes ESPN Deportes television, ESPN Deportes Radio, ESPN Deportes.com, and ESPN Deportes Wireless, with which ESPN serves the U.S. Hispanic sports fan. Considered to be the only U.S. based general sports Spanish-language monthly publication, ESPN Deportes La Revista is distributed in the top U.S. Hispanic markets, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Additional markets include cities in Massachusetts, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Puerto Rico.

The premiere issue's cover story, “Latino Power: 101 Most Influential Latinos in Sports,” will rank the top 101 Latino athletes, coaches, owners, and executives. The list was determined jointly by the editorial staffs of ESPN Deportes La Revista and ESPN Deportes.com, with emphasis on the candidate's recent impact, influence, and achievements.
