Jose Nieto, director of production for The Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network, Inc. (HITN) a New York City based non-profit organization that provides a network of non-commercial telecommunications facilities to Hispanics in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, plans to venture out on his own with the publication of Mundo Libros. The 96-page Spanish language magazine will cover everything about the world of Hispanic and Latin American books, including interviews with authors. The first issue of Mundo Libros will be distributed free of charge to public schools, libraries and universities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico (Initial circulation will be 22,000 in the U.S. and 3,000 in Puerto Rico). “We are targeting mostly professors, librarians, teachers through institutional subscriptions, not the general public,” explained Nieto. Mundo Libros will start out as a bimonthly publication, but Nieto says that they plan to make the transition to monthly as soon as possible. The subscription price will be about $3.00 per issue.
