Panregional/ Televisa expands Latin American editions of National Geographic Kids

Last year, Editorial Televisa, publisher of National Geographic en español, launched National Geographic Kids en español in Mexico, and plans to expand the kid's title to Argentina this year. Wider distribution in Latin America is just one part of a larger global expansion, which includes distributing National Geographic Kids in South Africa, Poland, Serbia, Croatia and the Netherlands. National Geographic Kids, launched in the U.S. in 1975, targets kids 6-14 and is distributed monthly to over 1.2 million readers worldwide (mostly through subscription). The new magazines, which accept advertising, are available by ubscription and on newsstands.

Editorial Televisa publishes National Geographic en español in Mexico, Central and South America (Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador) and in the US Hispanic market (circ. 30,129, monthly). Ad sales in the US Hispanic market were $129,300 during the January-November 2004 period, according to HispanicMagazineMonitor. Most of National Geographic en español revenues are derived from subscription sales. An annual subscription in the US Hispanic market costs US $24.ewlett Packard is currently sponsoring a photo contest in National Geographic called “Luces de America,” that will run through April of 2005. National Geographic en español is published in Spain by RBA Publicaciones, which also publishes Viajes, the Spanish edition of National Geographic Traveler and Historia (launched Nov. 2003).
