Scripps Media Center (SMC), the content hub of the Scripps Howard newspaper chain, is looking to produce Spanish-lan-guage newspaper wrap-arounds and inserts. These editorial products will be offered to Scripps Howard papers, as well as other publications. Karen Timmons, SMC managing editor, tells Portadatm that the editorial coverage will be mostly on local and Latin American news. SMC plans to hire Spanish-language journalists for the new venture, which won't be up and running until 2005, Timmons notes. SMC got into Spanish-language publishing in 1998 when it began producing La Voz (quarterly, circ. 450,000), a custom publication for Verizon's Hispanic clients. La Voz focuses on education, job enrichment and standard of living, personal safety and security.
