Torá Tropical (circ. 10,000, quarterly), launched at the end of last year, prides itself on being New York's only Spanish-language Jewish newspaper. The 16 page tabloid size paper is handed out free-of-charge at Jewish Community Centers and synagogues in New York and Miami. The paper targets the tens of thousands of Latin American Jews that have immigrated to the U.S. in the last few years. The quarterly is edited by Rabbi Rigoberto Emmanuel Viñas who co-founded the paper with Miriam Ventura, a Dominican Jew and editor-in-chief of La Mano News, a Spanish-language community paper distributed in the Bronx and Washington Heights. Viñas has plans to expand Torá Tropical to Chicago and Los Angeles. Other Spanish-language Jewish media undertakings include RadioSefarad.com, a Madrid based Internet radio station focusing on issues related to modern Jewish life which targets Spanish-speaking Jews and Spanish-speakers in general in Spain, the U.S. and Latin America.
