People en español gets a new editor…

Richard Pérez-Feria took over as managing editor of People en español on May 1st. He replaced Angelo Figueroa, who leaves his post at People en español to become editor-at-large for Time magazine. He will also work on developing Hispanic content for AOL. Sources at People en español told Portadatm that Pérez-Feria has not yet disclosed his plans for the publication. “We are sure that this will be an evolution not a revolution for the magazine,” sources said.

...and a Telemundo TV special

The largest US magazine written for Hispanics (circ. 400,000) also announced a Telemundo TV special. The special will be based on People en español's best-selling franchise issue “25 Most Beautiful.” The 2003 issue will come to life at the 2nd annual “25 Most Beautiful” celebrity gala at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on May 14th. The celebrity gala will be filmed and aired as a two-hour special on Telemundo, Sunday, May 18th.

The deal between Telemundo, an NBC – General Electric owned network, and People en español is structured as a joint venture. No money will be exchanged. Honda will be the platinum sponsor for both the event and the TV special, while Maybelline will sponsor the event only.
